Natural Hair Lesson #4
Gel and a hard bristled brush are NOT your best friends in trying to lay down your edges. I repeat, they ARE NOT your best friends in trying to lay down your edges!
I used to glob on the gel and scrape at my edges to keep them in place and then cover them with a scarf for 15 minutes. WRONG. So wrong. And I paid for it dearly in losing a good amount of my hair around the edges that I’m nursing back to life now.
Instead try either a dab of gel (with NO alcohol in it - alcohol severely dries out your hair and eventually helps it break off) or a holding wax or pudding like:
- Organic Root Stimulator Hair Pudding for Girls
- Mizani Shimmer Reflects Medium Hold Gel
- IC Olive Oil Polisher Gel
Smooth your edges/baby hairs in whichever direction you want them to go WITH YOUR FINGERS first. A very soft bristled brush can aid in getting it just right afterward. Put on a scarf for 10 to 15 min before you’re ready to head out and voila! Smoothed edges w/o the added stress & tension of harsh gels and hard brushes…
